Wisdom tooth removal
We will be happy to advise you on whether or not your wisdom teeth should be removed.
Gum corrections
We are happy to carry out individual planning and therapy after a detailed consultation and examination.
The wisdom teeth
Wisdom teeth or dentes serotini - the third molars - are the eighth teeth from the midline in the human dentition. This is why dentists also refer to them as "the eights".
Wisdom teeth can be very useful chewing elements - if there is sufficient space in the jaw and they have fully erupted in the correct position (usually between the ages of 18 and 30).
Removal of the wisdom teeth
When should wisdom teeth be removed?
- For deep destruction due to caries and inflammation
- If an inflammation or cyst is detected in the jawbone during an X-ray
- If they are difficult to clean due to their location
- If they do not break through completely
- For lack of space
Why should wisdom teeth be removed in good time?
- To prevent damage and complications, such as caries and resorption of the tooth roots on neighboring healthy teeth
- To prevent inflammation in the bone, such as pus formation and abscesses
- To avoid extensive surgical removal in the case of complete root formation in adulthood with the risk of nerve injury
- Teeth cannot be brushed properly if there is a lack of space
By diagnosing early on that the wisdom teeth cannot erupt correctly and by removing the wisdom teeth in good time at a young age, you can avoid these possible complications.
Wisdom tooth removal techniques
Depending on the position and shape of the roots, the removal of wisdom teeth can be simple or complex.
In simple situations, when the wisdom teeth have already broken through the oral cavity, they can be extracted.
In more complex situations, when the wisdom teeth are partially or completely trapped in the bone, wisdom teeth must be removed surgically by opening up the gums and separating the tooth. This protects important nerves and reduces the risk of complications. Wisdom teeth are removed painlessly under local anesthesia.
We specialize in complex wisdom tooth extractions.
Gum corrections
A beautiful smile is the result of a harmonious relationship between teeth and gums. Deviations from the norm, such as clearly visible tooth necks (recessions) or an asymmetrical gum line, can lead to a deterioration of the overall cosmetic appearance.
Recession is the recession of the gums and the underlying alveolar bone, resulting in the exposure of part of the tooth neck and the dentinal tubules.
Gum recession
Possible causes for the emergence of a recession
- Incorrect cleaning technique
- Misaligned teeth
- Gingival width less than 2mm
- Attachment of lip or cheek frenulum to the gingival margin
- Size mismatch between tooth and alveolar bone
Reasons for surgical recession coverage
- Hypersensitivity of exposed tooth necks to heat or coldAesthetic impairment
- Functional impairment
- Root covering as caries prophylaxis, as the exposed dentine in the root area is significantly more susceptible to caries than tooth enamel
- Thin buccal bone lamella
- Recession development in the course of orthodontic tooth movements
Recession therapy
Regardless of the surgical procedure, existing inflammation must be removed in advance and the patient must be motivated to use the correct brushing technique and to attend regular check-ups. Incorrect loading of the affected teeth must be excluded or corrected.
The aim of periodontal procedures to cover recession is to cover the root surface as completely as possible and to halt the progression of recession. This protects the teeth permanently and restores their overall esthetic appearance.
Recession is treated by microsurgical gum augmentation with or without gum grafts or conservatively with a tooth-colored filling. With the microsurgical techniques of mucogingival surgery, it is now possible in many cases to completely cover the root surface and stop the progression of recession.
However, the chances of success are highly dependent on the individual's initial situation. Decisive factors include the severity of the disease, the individual gum type and lifestyle factors such as smoking and oral hygiene.
