Your treatment takes place in one session and lasts approx. 90 minutes. Your gums are protected by a rubber-like, smooth covering material. Your teeth are then coated with highly concentrated whitening gel and irradiated using a blue light lamp. This activates the active ingredients in the gel liquid and immediately gives your teeth a healthy, radiant shine that makes you look and feel good.

Home bleaching - your bleaching at home
Two appointments are scheduled for "home bleaching" at the ZZL - your dental health center in Lucerne. At the first appointment, impressions are taken of your upper and lower jaw for the production of individual, wafer-thin, transparent trays in the dental laboratory. These will be fitted after completion at a second appointment. The trays must fit perfectly so that the whitening gel only works on the teeth and the gums are spared contact with the gel.
We will carry out the first bleaching treatment of the cycle together with you. We will explain to you exactly what you need to pay attention to during the applications at home and give you detailed safety instructions. With this method, the result will only be visible after a few weeks.
How often and for how long you use your splints will be discussed with you individually.
Possible disadvantages of the home bleaching method
In addition to the long duration of treatment, incorrect application can also cause the whitening gel to get into areas such as sensitive tooth necks or on the gums, where it can cause chemical burns, or it can be swallowed.
Walking bleaching - internal bleaching
Has your tooth become darkly discolored after root canal treatment, particularly in the front tooth area, and is this affecting the overall appearance of your smile? Does this single tooth resist the effect of other whitening methods? No problem - we can help you regain a radiant smile!
With "internal tooth whitening", a whitening agent is inserted into the tooth for several days. The tooth is whitened "from the inside". As the whitening is delayed, it should usually be repeated several times to achieve your desired tooth color. Only when you are satisfied with the result will the tooth be permanently sealed.

How does tooth discoloration occur?
Tooth discoloration is different from plaque. They can penetrate the tooth from the outside through coloring substances (e.g. coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco, mouthwashes containing chlorhexidine, etc.) below the tooth surface or from the inside (e.g. in devitalized (root canal-treated) teeth, as a result of accidents, malnutrition, the effects of medication, certain general diseases, etc.).
Bleaching works on these stubborn, ingrained discolorations that cannot be removed either by your daily home teeth cleaning or by professional teeth cleaning at the dentist.

How long does tooth whitening last?

A refresher treatment is recommended after 18 months at the earliest and will be discussed with us on an individual basis. If your teeth become darker again over time, a new bleaching treatment will bring back their wonderful shine.
Possible side effects
Possible side effects can manifest themselves as a burning sensation of the oral mucosa or as hypersensitivity of the affected teeth during or after the treatment. To prevent tooth sensitivity and provide your teeth with nutrients, we protect your teeth with a high-dose fluoride preparation after bleaching.
We recommend and give you products against tooth sensitivity that should be used after the treatment.
