Wisdom tooth removal
Wisdom tooth removal
Wisdom teeth or Dentes serotini – the third molars – are called the eighth teeth from the midline in the human dentition. Therefore, by dentists they are referred to as “the eigth”.
Wisdom teeth can indeed serve as useful elements in mastication – if there is sufficient room for them in the jaw and if the wisdom teeth have grown in correctly (usually occurring between the 18th and 30th year of life).
When should wisdom teeth be removed?
- At deep destruction by caries and inflammation
- When an inflammation or cyst is found in the jaw bone at the X-ray
- If they can be brushed poorly because of their location
- If they do not completely break through
- If there is a lack of space

Why should wisdom teeth be removed in time?
- To avoid damage and complications such as decay and resorption of the roots of adjacent healthy teeth
- To avoid inflammation of the bone, such as pus formation and abscesses
- To avoid a complicated surgical removal with complete root formation in adulthood with risk of nerve injury
- For lack of space the teeth can not be cleaned properly
Through the early diagnosis, that the wisdom teeth can not break through correctly and timely removal of the wisdom teeth in young age you avoid these potential complications.
Techniques of the wisdom tooth removal
Depending on the location and shape of the roots the removal of wisdom teeth can be simple or complex .
In simple situations, where the wisdom teeth have already broken through the oral cavity, they can be extracted.
In more complex situations, where the wisdom teeth are partially or completely enclosed in bone, a surgical removal of wisdom teeth through a gums flap procedure and separation of the tooth must be performed. Important nerves are hereby spared and thus the risk of complications is reduced. The removal of wisdom teeth is not painful with local anaesthetic used to prevent discomfort.
We are specialized on complex wisdom tooth removal.
