Tooth discoloration differ from plaque. They can be caused from the outside, by coloring substances (eg coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco, chlorhexidine mouth rinses, etc.) that penetrate below the surface of the tooth into the tooth or from the inside (eg in non-vital (endodontically treated) teeth due to accidents, malnutrition, effects of drugs, certain systemic diseases, etc.).
Bleaching works against these persistent, embedded stains, which can neither be removed through your daily home dental cleaning nor by professional tooth cleaning at the dentist.
“The professional bleaching is a gentle and effective method to give your teeth their youthful and healthy appearance!”
By the application of special, oxidising agents interfering pigments which have embedded in the enamel will be removed without changing the enamel in its substance.
With modern methods of teeth whitening both individual as well as entire rows of teeth can be whitened by several color levels.
“We help you to restore the natural color of your teeth!”
Power Bleaching – In-office whitening
“The gentle, controlled brightening at the dentist – “If it has to go quick!”
Your treatment is carried out at our dental office in one session and takes about 90 minutes. Your gums will thereby be protected by a rubbery, soft drape. Afterwards your teeth will be coated with a highly concentrated whitening gel and irradiated by using a blue light lamp. Hereby the active substances in the gel fluid get activated and your teeth immediately get a healthy glow which will make you look and feel great.
“You save time, because your time is important to us!”
Home bleaching – your at-home whitening
Two sessions at ZZL – your Dental Health Center Lucerne are needed for the “home bleaching”. During the first appointment impressions of your upper and lower jaw are taken for the production of individual, thin, transparent trays in the dental lab. These will be adjusted after completion during the second appointment. The trays must fit perfectly, so that the whitening gel only acts on the teeth and the gums will be spared from contact with the gel.
We carry out the first whitening treatment cycle together with you. We exactly explain what to look for during your applications at home and provide detailed safety instructions. With this method the result will only be visible after a couple of weeks.
How often and how long to use your trays, will individually be discussed with you.
Possible disadvantages of the home bleaching method
In addition to the prolonged treatment, incorrect application of the whitening gel to places such as sensitive tooth areas or the gums can cause chemical burns or it may be swallowed.
Walking bleaching – Internal Bleaching
Has your tooth turned dark after a root canal treatment, especially in the anterior region and thus affects the overall picture of your smile? Is this individual tooth depriving beyond the effect of other whitening methods? No problem – we help you to gain a bright smile in a row again! With the “internal tooth whitening” a brightening agent is introduced into the tooth for several days. The tooth is bleached “from the inside”. As the brightening happens delayed, it usually should be repeated several times in order to reach your desired tooth color. Only when you are satisfied with the result, the tooth is definitely closed.
The treatment success rate is approximately 76%.
We are happy to advise you about the best whitening method for you.
This is highly dependent on your
individual oral hygiene and your lifestyle habits (coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco, etc.). With good dental hygiene and regular professional dental hygiene at
ZZL – your
Dental Health Center Lucerne, the result can be obtained for several years. A refreshment is recommended at the earliest after 18 months and will be clarified individually. If your teeth become discoloured with time again, a renewed
teeth whitening brings back your wonderful shine.
Possible side-effects can manifest as a burning sensation of the oral mucosa or as a hypersensitivity of the affected teeth during or after treatment. In order to prevent tooth sensitivity and to provide your teeth with nutrients, we apply a high-dose fluoride on your teeth after bleaching.
We recommend and give you products against tooth sensitivity, which should be used following the treatment.
